Authentic Bangers and Mash Recipe with Rich Onion Gravy

Ingredients

• 4 links pork sausage
• 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and cubed
• 0.25 cup butter
• 2 tablespoons milk
• 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
• salt and ground black pepper to taste
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 2 large onions, chopped
• 6 cups beef broth
• 2 cups red wine

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C) to keep the sausages warm.
2. In a skillet over medium-low heat, cook the sausages until golden brown, approximately 5 minutes on each side. Then, transfer them to an oven-safe dish and place in the preheated oven to maintain warmth.
3. Place the potatoes in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil over medium heat. Simmer until tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Drain the water and let the potatoes steam dry briefly. Incorporate 1/4 cup of butter, milk, dry mustard, salt, and black pepper, then mash until light and smooth. Set aside for serving.
4. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become translucent and begin to brown, around 8 minutes. Pour in the beef broth and red wine. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it simmer until it has reduced to half its original volume, approximately 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
5. Serve the cooked sausages alongside the creamy mashed potatoes. Generously pour the warm onion gravy over the top for a delightful culinary experience.
