In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and onion. Cook, breaking up the beef into crumbles, until it is fully browned. Then, drain off any excess grease.
Move the cooked beef and onion mixture to a slow cooker. Stir in the ketchup, sugar, vinegar, and mustard. Season generously with Worcestershire sauce, salt, celery seed, and pepper to enhance the flavors.
Cover the slow cooker and let the sauce simmer on Low heat for 3 hours, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully before serving.
