Cherry Wink Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

• 0.75 cup shortening
• 1 cup white sugar
• 2 eggs eggs
• 2 tablespoons milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2.25 cups sifted all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
• 0.5 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup chopped pecans
• 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
• 0.33 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
• 2.5 cups crushed cornflakes cereal
• 10 maraschino cherries, quartered

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease your cookie sheets to prevent sticking.
2. Cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the creamed ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the chopped pecans, chopped dates, and 1/3 cup of chopped maraschino cherries.
4. Shape the dough into teaspoon-sized balls. Roll each ball in the crushed corn flakes until fully coated. Place the cornflake-covered balls onto the prepared baking sheets and press a quarter of a maraschino cherry onto the top of each cookie.
5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheets before transferring them to airtight containers for storage.
