Classic Homemade Meatloaf Recipe with Heinz Ketchup

Ingredients

• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• 0.5 cup finely chopped onion
• 0.5 cup finely chopped celery
• 0.25 cup finely chopped green pepper
• 1 cup Heinz Tomato Ketchup
• 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
• 1 cup soft, fresh breadcrumbs
• 1 large egg, slightly beaten
• 0.5 teaspoon salt
• 0.25 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook onion, celery, and green pepper until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup to make a flavorful sauce. Remove from heat.
3. In a large bowl, gently combine half the ketchup sauce with ground beef, bread crumbs, beaten egg, salt, and pepper. Pat mixture into the prepared loaf pan.
4. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until an instant-read thermometer reaches 160°F (70°C). Remove from oven and let meatloaf rest before slicing.
5. While meatloaf rests, reheat remaining ketchup sauce over medium heat. Slice meatloaf and serve with warm homemade sauce.
