Darlene's Famous Dirt Cake Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 (20 ounce) package chocolate sandwich cookies with creme filling
• 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar
• 0.25 cup butter, softened
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 3 cups milk
• 2 (3.9 ounce) packages instant chocolate pudding mix
• 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
• 15 gummi worms

Instructions

1. Process chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor until finely crushed. Set aside the cookie crumbs.
2. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla extract on low until combined. Increase speed to medium and beat until smooth. Gradually add milk and pudding mix, mixing on low until well combined. Gently fold in the whipped topping using a rubber spatula.
3. Layer one-third of the cookie crumbs in a 9x13-inch baking pan. Top with half of the pudding mixture, then another one-third of the cookie crumbs, followed by the remaining pudding mixture, and finally, the last one-third of the cookie crumbs.
4. Decorate with gummy worms, tucking the ends into the cookie 'dirt'. Ensure each serving piece has a gummy worm. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving. Cut into 15 squares. (For serving in a clean flower pot or sand bucket, use a clean garden trowel or toy shovel.) Keep refrigerated.
