Irresistible Asian Lettuce Wraps: A Flavorful & Fun Appetizer

Ingredients

• 16 Boston Bibb or butter lettuce leaves
• 1 pound lean ground beef
• 1 tablespoon cooking oil
• 1 large onion, chopped
• 0.25 cup hoisin sauce
• 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
• 2 teaspoons minced pickled ginger
• 1 dash Asian chile pepper sauce, or to taste
• 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and finely chopped
• 1 bunch green onions, chopped
• 2 teaspoons Asian (dark) sesame oil

Instructions

1. Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
2. Gently wash the lettuce leaves and pat them dry, taking care not to tear them. Set them aside.
3. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly (approximately 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease, then transfer the cooked beef to a bowl.
4. Add diced onion to the same skillet. Cook and stir until the onion becomes tender and translucent, about 5 to 7 minutes.
5. In the skillet, combine hoisin sauce, minced garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, ground ginger, and chili pepper sauce. Mix well until everything is thoroughly combined. Incorporate water chestnuts, sliced green onions, sesame oil, and the cooked ground beef. Continue cooking and stirring for about 2 minutes, or until the onions soften slightly.
6. Arrange the prepared lettuce leaves attractively around the edge of a large serving platter. Spoon the flavorful beef mixture into the center of the platter.
