1 cup all-purpose flour
0.33 cup packed brown sugar
0.5 cup softened butter
1 egg egg
0.33 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
0.5 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a mixer, combine flour and 1/3 cup of brown sugar. Mix in the softened butter until a dough forms. Press the dough into an ungreased 8x8-inch baking pan and prick it with a fork.
Bake the shortbread in the preheated oven until it turns golden brown, approximately 20 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, beat an egg together with 1/3 cup of brown sugar, maple syrup, and pecans. Pour this pecan mixture evenly over the hot crust, then return it to the oven. Continue baking until the topping sets, about 12 to 15 minutes.
Remove from the oven and immediately run a knife around the edges to prevent sticking. Allow it to cool completely before cutting it into 1-inch bar cookies for serving.
