Nutella Puff Pastry Christmas Tree: A Festive Holiday Treat

Ingredients

• 1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
• 4 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread (such as Nutella®), or more to taste, at room temperature
• 1 egg, lightly beaten

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Gather all of your ingredients for easy preparation.
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of puff pastry into a large rectangle. Transfer the pastry to the prepared baking sheet.
3. Using a knife or pizza cutter, gently score the puff pastry into a Christmas tree shape (a triangle with a wide base). Spread a thin, even layer of chocolate-hazelnut spread over the pastry triangle.
4. Roll out the second puff pastry sheet into a large rectangle and carefully place it on top of the chocolate-covered pastry. Gently trace the Christmas tree shape underneath and cut out the tree and trunk. Remove any excess pastry.
5. Score two lines down the middle of the triangle to create the tree trunk, making it narrower at the top and wider at the base. Use the trunk as a guide to cut branches into the sides of the triangle.
6. Twist each branch away from you to create a spiral effect. Aim for about two turns on the lower branches. Continue twisting the branches as you move up the tree.
7. Cut out a small star from the remaining pastry and place it on top of the tree. Brush the entire tree and star with beaten egg for a golden-brown finish.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown. Let it cool slightly for about 5 minutes before carefully transferring it to a serving plate, using parchment paper if needed.
