Soft and Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

• 1.5 cups white sugar, divided
• 0.75 cup margarine, melted
• 1 egg egg
• 0.25 cup molasses
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons baking soda
• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 0.5 teaspoon salt
• 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
• 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions

1. Prepare all of your ingredients.
2. In a medium-sized bowl, combine 1 cup of sugar, butter, and egg. Mix until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.
3. Thoroughly stir in the molasses.
4. In a separate medium bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, cloves, and ginger. Add this dry mixture to the molasses mixture, stirring until everything is well combined. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
5. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). While the oven is heating, roll the dough into 1-inch diameter balls. Roll each ball in the remaining 1/2 cup of white sugar, then place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
6. Bake in the preheated oven until the tops of the cookies are cracked, approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
