The Best Homemade Applesauce Cake Recipe

Ingredients

• 0.67 cup butter-flavored shortening
• 4 large eggs
• 1.75 cups applesauce
• 0.67 cup water
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 3.33 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1.5 teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
• 1.5 cups raisins
• 0.67 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a fluted cake pan or Bundt pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time until well combined.
3. In a saucepan, combine the applesauce, water, and baking soda. Heat over medium heat, stirring until warm, about 2 minutes. Stir the applesauce mixture into the creamed mixture, then stir in the vanilla extract.
